Got bored and decided to update the base components of my system and uprade to an SSD primary drive.

New Purchase-
-Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB
-Asus Maximus V Formula
-Intel 3770K Ivy Bridge
-2X Western Digital 500 GB Velociraptor
-LG Blueray burner

This will be my first foray into SSD and kind of looking forward to it. So the Samsung SSD will be setup as the primary drive for the OS and basic applications. The two Velociraptors will be setup in Raid 0 array for games and other files. This should be a nice upgrade from the green WD drives I have now.

Items moving over from current system.
-2X Asus GTX680
-Seasonic 1250 Watt PSU
-24 GB G. Skill Ripjaws Z
-Silverstone FT02 Case
-Windows Pro 7


This setup should have me setup pretty well and will hopefully buy me a few years with out worrying about upgrades. I just dread all the work ahead of me rebuilding and reinstalling hundreds of applications and software updates..

Did MicroCenter open back up in NorCal yet? If not, that sux, cuz that is one overpriced mobo. I would have saved the extra $125 on that mobo, switched to F3's or Blacks for the RAID0 storage array, and picked up another SSD for some RAID0 OS array action. :D Raptors just aren't worth the price premium, IMO.

So... what size monitor you got again?

The board is actually a pretty good board with pretty much the same performance profile as every Z77 board in the Asus lineup. It was on sale for $248.99 and came with a copy of AC3, did not feel like spending up for accessories I did not need. It has the basics I wanted, bluetooth 4.0 and wireless networking plus a minimum dual 16 lanes of 3.0 PCIE. As to the storage, it would of required dual 512 GB of storage to meet my needs and I was not about to spend a grand on two SSD to do raid. The two Raptors were on sale end of year for $119.00 and in raid 0 will be plenty for secondary storage, with 256 gigs for primary it should do what I need. Although the Raptors do not come up to the performance of SSD, the newer generation are not that far behind in sustained transfer rates and at a fraction of the cost of mass storage SSD. At the moment I am using an older Dell 24" monitor in 16:10 but I am looking for a 27" WQHD monitor but have yet to decide on which one.

er fuckk! everyones getting the 3770k but mee! haha. looks good on paper. lucky you!

cant wait til its my time to upgrade

Is in my current system and still very good ram so it is not going to get upgraded. It is nice using it as ram drive to fully load apps into opposed to using hd based caching. Really dying to see how the new hd based SSD and raid based Raptors perform, I am sure it will blow my mind. Killed another mouse so it is becoming a PITA doing anything on the computer with out one. Hurry up Newegg!!!
