I finally just bought the damn parts already. This is a budget build but it should improve things a lot
  • Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz ---> AMD Phenom II 965 BE 3.4 GHz ($95)
  • Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Mobo ---> Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 Mobo ($73)
  • 3GB DDR2 PC-6400 Memory ---> 8 GB G.skill Ripjaws X (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 CL8 1.5V ($75)
  • EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB ---> Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1 GB
All of this is going into my old Cooler Master Centurion case, 500W PC Power & Cooling PSU will power it, and in the interim my SATAII WD 500GB will be my storage until I spring for an SSD. For cooling I will do a Cooler Master 212 Plus and MX-4 Thermal Compound.

Please refrain from telling me how I did this all wrong...because everything is already on its way :p

Your 500W PC Power & Cooling PSU is on the edge for the set up above.
I would go 650W.........

Yeah I was getting that impression as well. When I punched it into pcpartpicker.com it estimated 427W so we'll see...

The PSU is the most important hardware of the PC and people tend to forget that.
Sometimes, when I died it will take some of the hardwares to the grave with it.

Recommendations? I found a 600W one I like, is 650 really the way to go here?

I found
CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V

for $59.99 after $20 rebate from newegg. Thinking this is the way to go...

well i DO have an extra Corsair TX750W... hrmmm :)
edit: ahh yah that 650W for 59.99 seems like a good deal
