The situation in Syria

Some crazy shit about to go down in Syria in the next few weeks when western forces get involved. Its a tough situation in a volatile place and time.

I see the arguments for both passive and aggressive diplomacy when it comes to dealing with Assad.

Syria is likely to turn into another middle eastern quagmire without a dictators iron first controlling the populace. Not sure if that's enough to justify letting him stay in power. But need to look no further then stability of Iraq, Libya, and Egypt to see the results of what happens when there is a power vacuum.

I'm interested to see everyone else thoughts on the matter.

It may not come as a shock that I struggled the most in history and world geography.
Sorry for the poor contribution...even though I'm still posting it. :ahahahaha:

Just another worthless conflict which will break more american families apart. I think we really need to stop policing the world, and take care of our own

We have no friends or allies in the country, really. We also don't have anyone to hunt down and kill. Afghanistan was one thing, this is another.

Honestly I pay almost no attention at all to these kinds of things because I hate sad stuff. Maybe thats childish but I dont care because being childish lets me avoid sad stuff. With that said Im pretty sure we could just hunt down the guy using chemical weapons, if anyone is.

I know people say alot of the times that we should just pull out and let them fight each other because we shouldnt and dont have a dog in that fight but answer me this. Would BATMAN pull out? NO!!! Batman would fight injustice even if it meant sacrificing his lady friend to a guy in a clown outfit.

Anyway, in theory we only go to war or take action to fight injustice and kill bad people. the problem comes when we say people there are bad people and thats our goal when really we just want money (oil). Obviously Im against any sort of violence for profit and it could very well be said that our wars are simply for profit conflicts, but I try to always see the good reasons behind things and believe they are the real reasons. America could totally be batman. We arent but we could be.

You really should pay attention to this type of stuff! This country was founded with the assumption that the citizenry would at least TRY to stay informed. :p

The problem is, at this point do you think Batman could watch all of NY or CA? How many more middle east countries should we get involved with? I'm not saying that the US should have an isolationist policy, but there comes a point where you just let two different groups of people that both hate your guts to kill each other. Our soldiers are important too.... and what would they be fighting for, and who would they be helping?

Batman cant watch whole states but America could. And ideally soldiers would be fighting to kill bad guys. REAL bad guys, not just the people we are told are bad. Ideally of course. Honestly I dont pay attention also because I have no faith in the people in charge and therefore have no faith in the correct resolution. They should put Me in charge or this one guy I know named Jaziel. that guy is cool.

Just using your analogy :)

But I agree, they would "kill the bad guys." The only problem is that in Syria, they're all bad guys. (I mean all the guys fighting, on either side, are the bad guys.) I just think there are too many places in this world to watch; there needs to be a legitimate reason (or US interest) to go. And I don't see how making the Russians nice and angry serves the cause.

But you should still pay attention, especially if you vote. :)

I wouldn't put you in charge, at least not until you started keeping track of things :0

I agree with zealot. Why do we always trying to be involve with this kind of situation. Thats why those people hate us so much. Things thats happening over in middle east aint pretty. I can say this for a fact. Ive been there. I was in the army for almost 10yrs. Ive been to bosnia and afghanistan. I know im not a GI but im part of it. Im a combat medic. Always at front line and evry patrol they do. Ive seen my friends die before my eyes.

We cant change those people. Its their nature.
