Picked up this router for $150 at microcenter this past weekend. Did some research ahead of time because I was looking for a media server type of router to locally host my media files and have them be accessible from anywhere with a internet connection. I was also having trouble with my older netgear 54g router. Paying for a 100mbps connection and I cant stream netflix and play csgo at same time without loss/choke was a problem so I needed an upgrade. Ill just rattle off some features and how they are operating so far.

Set up was easy, had internet access within 5 minutes. Typical set up wizard. Their UI is nice looking and responds well.

AiCloud, its a phone app for at home on the network that you can access your pc and or storage drives attached to your router, you can download or stream music and movies directly to your device. So far works very well on my samsung note 4. The browser version also works very well and from anywhere. You can also back up your files on asus servers i think but im not into that.

There is also an asus router app that you can use to have full control over your router from anywhere on your phone. These apps can be pushed to the phone through the router settings or found on the android market/appstore.

FTP server works great, you can register it with pretty much any name so long as its not already taken. This is browser access to all of your files from anywhere to be able to download them. I believe you can also push files to the server but I have not tried.

There is also an https address you can access from anywhere that gives a much nicer UI and access to your pc as well as the router attached storage providing your pc is online and you have the proper credentials to log into it. The router storage is always accessible so long as the router/modem is on and working.

You can easily set the FTP server up as well as change the name of it anytime. Creating accounts with the ability to access these two sites is also very easy to do and change permissions on. Literally takes 2 minutes to add a new account and give it the ability to read/write files. Be careful with the https site though if your pc is on there and not locked, whoever that logs into the site could access it and do whatever they wanted.

The speed of the router is fast and consistent. I have yet to need to reset it as a lot of reviews had complained. My speedtest.net results went from 70-90mbps to 110mbps on a 100mbps connection. I did notice a capacitor whining at first but it went away and havent heard it since. Range seems as advertised on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

You can monitor router cpu/ram usage, I have been downloading from one attached drive, streaming from another to my phone (2 usb ports), streaming netflix to tv and watching HBO on pc all at same time and it did not break a sweat at all. I am not sure anyone could truly need to be doing much more than that. I have not even turned on the bandwidth manager because it has handled everything with no problems as is.

So far I have attached a HP 64GB USB thumb drive to it, a Seagate 250GB portable and a WD 1TB portable and all have worked and are compatible. If the router says your device is unmounted that means there is an error on the device and it may need to be formatted or error checked.

This is my first review so apologies about the format. Overall this is an excellent router and I am happy with its performance. Everything works as advertised.

@Space Cowboy Idk just me being paranoid and what not but I would definitely disable the remote access to your PC. Again just me being paranoid and my major forcing down our throats to be caution at all times cause of the shit people can do with minimum equipment... These type of routers can be broken down with a force entry give or take 4hrs if people really wanted to. Hopefully you disabled broadcasting your SSID and atleast went up with IPv6

Using the exact router and extremely happy with its performance. I bought it for $80 refurbished though.

Does this major have a class on making foil hats and building panic rooms? :D
I think that class would use me as what not to do. Enable everything, use the same password, etc. :p

Ive purchaced routers from best buy and as soon as something about them acts up I bring them to best buy and replace them with no price degeneration, this router's was my most recent one have had it for i think a year so far so good. (Only payed $10 on top of my old router for this +$15 for the best buy warranty)

Lol no foil hats but lots of Kali for testing and lot of binary numbers to know for ip addresses :p

Yeah, I've been pretty happy with a Nighthawk R6700 (Costco model).
I feel like these newer AC routers from Netgear & Asus (among others) have been more reliable than the last decade of routers I've gone through like toilet paper.

@v.Kamikaze I see your "Meh!" What's your XP rocking for a router? Does it have 11b yet? 33.6 or 56k?:devil::devil:

I love giving you a hard time cuz we both know you could be on a 486 and voodoo3 card and still run circles around me in css. ;)
