Im in philippines vacationing. Where Im staying, hotel workers tell me their daily pay is 250peso ($1 = 44peso), about $5.70 per day at current exhange rate). I rode in a tricycle about 2miles for 10peso($0.25), ok, I gave driver 10peso tip. Transportation is very cheap, except domestic flights. Yes, philippines is recently rated top 10 countries to retire for its low cost of living. Every person I talked to, so far, speaks english, accent is not too heavy. The only thing undesirable here in the cities is air pollution from combo of older cars, jeepneys, motorcycles, jeepnys, and poor road drainage. Traffic is very very bad in Manila. Daily pay there is about 500peso.

A lot of them marry sailors stationed there, I know a few of my customers wives don't speak english, just married to get over here

hehe, I was just there a couple weeks ago! yah, most people speak english except in provinces. While paying for our first meal, I was about to tip $10USD and my cousin flipped out, lol. Apparently, standard tip is only 20PHP, 50PHP, or max 100PHP. Enjoy, @tuc0!!! oh, can you bring me back some food for the gods from purple oven? :p

Kami, wtf is that purple jam? Lol. Im clueless. Is that the ube in the halohalo? Btw, there are lots of ford trucks suv and cars here. I never seen those models back in US though. There are also ford dealerships. Did not see chevy nor dodge.

Yeah, I get happy smiles from my tipping. It's not much to me, but to them, it makes a lot of difference.

For you young adventurous guys, this place is party heaven. Lota of things to do for lot less money.

Find out where the korean communities are in manila or quezon city, so u will feel at home away from home. Dont expect too much. Philipoines is still a 3rd world country. I stayed in century park hotel and there were lots of koreans visitors who seemed to be enjoying themselves.
