Child firing Uzi at Ariz. shooting range accidentally kills instructor, police say

I started shooting with a shotgun when I was 5 years old. Guess its a south thing. Dad thought it would be a good way to show me that guns are dangerous and how to be careful with them. Same thing his Dad with him. But an uzi? Why a gun that is generally extremely difficult for a novice to control.
 
I can say that I personally was introduced to fire arms at a the age of 4 or 5 (forgive me for not remembering... it was only 23 to 24 years ago). But that being said, I was shooting a .22 cal single fire rifle and revolver, not a uzi 9mm with full auto! Watching the video shows me 1 thing... the instructor probably was not doing the right thing standing so close to the girl. And 2 if a 9 year old girl was to be shooing a firearm of that sort, I would have been a much more active participant (such as holding the weapon with the child and keeping it on safe until it was time to shoot). Needless to say a 9 year old girl should not have been shooting unassisted or even been aloud to shoot to begin with. That such a caliber weapon on full auto is not easy to control for an adult needless to say a 9 year old girl! Was probably something like whisky throttle when riding a motorcycle. I was never trained on full auto, other than dump 180 rounds and fast as possible down range. But I was 30 in the best shape of my life and able to hump 120 lbs around for weeks at a time in the most difficult terrain you could think of. Not something meant for a 9 year old girl! Stupid policy of the gun range and stupid thinking of the parents. If an grown adult has a hard time handling a single fire weapon what makes you think that a 50 lb child can do the same?
 
+1 for IQ tests before you can be a firearm owner. What is the saying..... common sense is not so common!

While I don't support it, I can still see kids using handguns at a range, when i was 11 i went to a camp for a 5th grade retreat and they were hardcore on us when we were just doing archery, we were deafly afraid to not aim at the targets.

yeah its 2 different things and 2-3 years difference, but i really think kids can get the consequences of shooting a gun (even though i think its un-needed at that age, some might not so i respect that)

but if you think shooting a full auto smg or rifle at that young age is okay, then im not sure how evolution didnt pick you off yet
 
I really want to know why would you give your 9yrold an uzi. Nothing could totally go wrong. I cannot fathom giving a child an uzi.
Maybe start with the .22 next time.
 
So, you gotta be 21 to drink but there is no age restriction on when you can handle a gun...just saying.

At the end of the day the fault will fall under her parents too for taking her there in the first place and letting her use an Uzi.

Btw I've shot an m60 at the navy seal base in San Diego few years back and when I shot it there was nobody besides me. Also the machine guns were attached to the table do I would not lose control and fly all over the place with it.

Anyways, I would be surprised if they continued teaching children using autos at this young age at the range after the following events.

Btw wasn't just few years ago when a young boy used an Uzi and he killed himself?

I started shooting at 5 or so... At 8 I was shooting my dad's m4 and mini 14... I grew up with guns but automatic weapons are way out of the range of a kid... My dad used a mac 10 in SF and he said that was about the most difficult weapon to keep control of... Why a child would be shooting one is way beyond my comprehension
