What's new

L's Prospectrive 2016 computer 1070 edition

I am refunding my MSI cards through newegg, then gonna buy the 1080 gtx if its available through evga, if its not then I'll rebuy the 980gtx ti through evga and step it up to whatever the next best version is going to be. At that point evga has 90 days to release their next best version of the card.
How long will you wait for the evga variants to be released before you grab the 980?

@kaM Haha I would go for the Tempered Glass but I plan to bring the thing with me to LA so having the tempered glass would be iffy I thought about it earlier when selecting my current case as a tempered glass option was available

Anyways heres the Build I think I set my sights on

@IcEWoLF Reguarding graphics card are u going to use the stepup program that evga offers? or are you gunna refund it through newegg?

Edit: Wrong cpu can was listed

Any specific reasons you are going with the Alpha mobo?
Usually Alpha mobo is mainly for extreme overclockers. It would be cheaper just to go with the Maxmius VIII hero unless you are planning to run 3800 OC ram.
The max the Hero can do is 3600 OC.
Also I'd wait to get a 950 pro, I'd go with the PCI-Express SSD over the Pro 950. If you are going to spend that much money on a SSD then might as well get something better, Intel 750 series.
Also most people would skip the founders edition, just not worth the extra money. All that is its bragging rights...better design and little better cooling, but a regular EVGA ACX would outperform it and may even have higher clock speeds.

This time around I am going to go with the Classified edition (step up) if I get the base 1080gtx.

Maybe a week or two.
EVGA is sending me a 760GTX which I should be able to do some light gaming on for few days/weeks.

Is that how it works? You apply for it they send you 760 you ship your 980 then u get your 1080?

Hmm Alpha I wanted the built in wifi, I like bringing my unit to my friends house but his place is wifi only, I also wanted to combine that wifi with a feature built into asus boards (not sure if rog specific) but it allows you to specify what line you want to use for whatever application i wanna run. Example i run the game via Lan while i run OBS, chrome, spotify etc via Wifi.

Hmmm dont plan on ram overclocking i may swap the one you suggested with the 2400s if anything.

From research ive see in most areas 950 has done better than 750 i also read booting from 750 may have an issure or i may have mis read that portion.

As far as the graphics card is concerned i want this build ready by the 1st week after overwatch (would say weekend but sadly ill be out of town and wont be able to play that first portion) so thats why im leaning towards founders UNLESS evga is able to get something out by the 1st week after the 1080s release

As far as overclocking is concerned i plan to use the software based overclocking asus has for the system since I dont have the proper knowledge to overclock a system w.o fucking it up.

HMMM i will take time to redisign the system again since my bottle neck is the release of the 1080 maybe i was overthinking it with the wifi... might go msi for aestetics... also the asus board has repeated audio issues... hows your hero doing anyways in reguards to audio @IcEWoLF ?

I would do something more like this for your build. Since the case comes with 2x 140mm fans in the front and 1x 140mm in the back... It can use either 2x 140mm or 3x 120mm at the top so using a cooler like the Kraken X61 which is a 280mm (2x 140mm) cooler, I'd go for that. And using a much better power supply that is fully modular is nice so you get less cables and if you wanted, can buy a cable kit to make it look nice

gdi u updated this as i was about to start typing lmao

hmm i may swap to the regular hero, the split bandwith they have for the unit is still beta and from a review few years ago says it should work with other wifi sticks? not just built in ones. I do have a wifi stick but might sell it to my friend whos interested in my old PC.

ill swap to the evga psu and ram cause you know u can never have too much ram speeds right?

i dont wanna swap to liquid cooling ive heard that the pump can be annoying in a quiet room as im sound sensitive yet fans are white noise to me. Also im looking to travel with this thing every so often so having the liquid cooling i dont want to risk accidental leakage. also fans should last longer time since less movign parts and the pump is more prone to failing over the longer period of time vs fans. and even if the fans do crap out they are easier and cheaper replacement

PS. Check ur GTX price point 599 is msrp doubt they would drop it below that

Im going o try to order through work i hear that i can, and there can be some discount since we order from buisiness, Im going to also see if i can lazer etch one my case one one side with the over watch symbol :)

If it was my build, I would do the normal hero board and toss in a nice pci-e wireless ac card.

I'm normally a Corsair PSU fanboy, but I just did a client build with the same EVGA one I listed and I was loving it.

If you're worried about those, I would say check out the EK AIO (http://www.ekwb.com/predator/) that I'm using. It's using an actual enthusiast pump that will outlive fans 20x. I've got pretty much the same pump in another build that's going on 200,000 hours where most fans fail at about 40,000. Since there is more surface area to cool, the fans can run at a lower rpm and be much more quiet. Toss on a nice low rpm, quiet fan and you're golden. It takes a bit to get these things to leak. If you still want to go air cooling, do check out the bequiet coolers.. I hear they are amazing and pretty damn quiet.

Yep, $100 off on that 1080 price =D

@-L- do not use the built in OC in the bios, it over voltages your system and you will kill your CPU longevity. For example when I tested out their built in system OC it used 1.43v to OC the system to 4.3GHz!!!!
I did the manual OC and I was able to achieve 4.5GHz at 1.280v... If you need to OC just hit me up and I can walk you through with it since the mobo is similar to mine.
Before you do any install make sure you download the latest bios firmware from Asus website.
Take your time building the system and spend lots of time doing cable management.
A good cable management system means easy times keeping the system clean and easy times if you need to change out parts.

I think going with the 6600k is a good choice because you can OC it to 4.5Ghz easily. It all depends how far you want to push the system, I'm sure with adequate cooling you can hit 4.8 or even 5.0ghz but if you want those numbers you will need a 280mm radiator, a small radiator is not going to do the job.

In my opinion corsair is king when it comes down to Aio cooling for CPU, much more reliable, their corsair link software is really nice, and their support and RMA is very good.
Also I think Corsair ships parts out from Cali, not sure about NZXT.

Do some YouTube research and compare the units, there is tons of comparisons out there.
