I dont suggest Raid 0 if you will use the Raid array for storage as 1 drive die, you will loose all your data. Unless, you go Raid 10 which required at least 4 drives

for performance, you want raid 0 (strip array required at least 2 drives) all the drives in Raid 0 will work in parallel meaning if you copy/read a file to a (2x drives) Raid 0 array then 1 drive will copy/read 50% of that file and the other drive will copy/read the other 50%, that will cut the time in half comparing to a single drive. If you have 3 drives Raid 0 array then each drive will copy/read 33% of the file in parallel...you get the picture?

Raid 10 is also for performance but has back up which required at least 4x drives.....2x drives will act like Raid 0 while the other 2x drives act like Raid 1, mirroring the 2x drives that act like Raid 0. Therefore, you still have your data if 2 out of the 4 drives die.

I don't like Raid 1 which is very slow....I am using Raid 5 and Raid 6 in my server as storage.

Raid 5 (required at least 3x drives) = if 1x drive die you still have your data
Raid 6 (requried at least 4x drives)= if 2x drives die you still have your data

So in order to use Raid 5 and 6 I'll need 4 drives? Or an 2 drive be enough still??

Raid 5 and 6 will be slower comparing to Raid 0 and Raid 10 because they distribute the back up data acrross all the drives in the Raid array

AH ic that makes sense XD

So I should just have my SSD without having Raid 0 or Raid 1

and maybe get 4x 250/500gig HDD for Raid 6 huh?

Use your 1x SSD as your boot drive for now.

Your mobo does NOT support Raid 6....only support Raid0,1,5 and 10
if Data is important to you then 3x 500GB in Raid 5
if you want more speed then 4x 500GB Raid 10

Note: the 3x 500GB as Raid 5 have BIGGER storage (but less speed) than the Raid 10 above

Yea I was looking at some CoolerMAster mid game cases. They had some cool ones not sure on Corsair.

With all the Raid expalnations, I just spent all day yesterday tried to recover >5TB of data from my Raid 6 ( 4x out of my 8 drives failed)

One dumb ass, (hunter :() forgot to plug in the fan that cool the 4x failed HDDs , I need to give myself a HS :(


No success yet, F me!!!
