What's new

This saddens me ... it can happen to anyone including you or me

Just shows you how crappy the system is and how many people are rotting away because a flawed system.

wow she lost 22 years of her life, b/c she didn't respond right to hearing her son died? I'm sorry i don't think any parent would know how to "properly" react to the death of their child. Plus everyone way of handling emotional agony/distress is not limited one correct way. she gets convicted off a hunch...what's sad to say if she had money on a decent lawyer, she probably would have been fine. I honestly wish wealth had nothing to do with conviction rate.

I agree with everything said about system. I have to say though, this never would've happened if she didn't trust her 4 year old with a psycho. That's the part of the story that can be better avoided. I think it's just hitting me harder as we're overly careful with our boys (hardly feel safe with family). :p

That detective should burn along with the cop that Desire had to deal with.

I'd never let my son go anywhere with a "roommate".

But damn, what a term to serve. Get out of jail @ 49 years old, your life essentially gone... child bearing years gone... back to the future is now a classic film... damn!

Our judicial system is not perfect, how could it be with imperfect overseers managing it, it is still the best this planet has to offer. Thankfully, there are watchdog groups and civil rights groups constantly watching and working to make it better. This story reminds me of the fire specialist that was found to be using bad science to find people guilty of arson and because of it murder. He was used to testify in many cases and because of his testimony many people were found guilty. Finally a scientist took it upon himself to research and get real world data and much of it refuted most of this mans life work. Some folks take it that we are done evolving and the reality is this, we are still pretty young species and at times just fumbling around in the dark. What happened to this lady is horrible but she could of easily been put down in that amount of time had she been placed on death row, thankfully that was not the case and she is a free lady today.
