Well my plan is to buy the phone (whichever i choose after the responses i get) from Malaysia where it's already unlocked. It's slightly cheaper there(not by alot) and plan to use it here with a no contract data plan (canada).

I would check if the phone's band is optimized for Canada's 4G network. I found out the hard way that my Nexus 5 (North American edition) does not work well with China's 4G bands. Most apps functioned appropriately, but were oddly slow. Worked great in Hong Kong.

I have a family friend who bought 4 samsung phones from Malaysia and they are using it here just fine. So i assume it should be fine.

You should still check the S4 and S6 uses a different band optimizations. One of my LG phone I got from Korea was working here in Cali before AT&T updated their band. Afterward I lost my 3G then lost my GMS. Once again I recommend the S5 or Note 4 even the HTC M8 over the S6

apparently if the phone is GSM 900, 1800 and 1900 it is usable in Canada
