PS3 vertical lines on the screen all of a sudden

it showed up all of a sudden as I was watching netflix.
I have tried:
1. many resets
2. blow dust off
3. bang my remotes

I am afraid that the PS3's GPU might be dying or dead beyond return.

I am patiently waiting for it to cool in case if its overheating for some reason. But you have 2 cents, please post it here. Thanks.

What kind of color are those lines?

From the sound of it looks like your GPU is overheating. Are you laying your PS3 on a carpet floor? have you cleaned the dust out a bit?
Try using a different HDMI port or a different HDMI cable. Some people said it might be a resolution problem as well.

I would say it is time to open it up, it is one tough SOB to open and close with out damage. Or get some one that does it often and clean out the heatsinks as it sounds like you are seeing artifacting from heat.

I blew dirt off with a shop vac and the problem seems to be gone after letting it sit for a day. I think it was because of overheating due my wife doesn't shut it off when she is not using it.

I took mine apart and put ic diamond on the die area... Totally over kill but o well
