The 47 Ronin
I am nothing more than a critic. I gotta say, nice work guys. I also gotta give L an Honorable Mention. L, your compositions are really coming together nicely and I must say that you're developing a good eye along with a strong technique. You've improved remarkably since you posted those first photos gee...what was that...2 years ago? 3? Nice work L.
I also like the Devin's diving photo as well as the dog hanging its head out the window. Actually Devin, those are all nice pieces. The two stage photos seem a bit too washed out to me but that's probably because they don't quite fit in with the some of the others that have a stronger emphasis on contrast and shadow. I know they'd work in a different setting/venue. The little girl picture makes me smile and the dog...well, he/shr makes me feel good.
I'm of the opinion, probably because I'm travelling as of tomorrow, that photos, in an artistic context, should evoke emotion(s) as opposed to depicting a subject as in person, place, or thing. As with any artistic endeavor, eliciting a compulsory response is what makes the artist, at least intrinsically, successful.
George, who is that? She's lovely. I love the comparison series.
We're all critics; everyone just brings their own perspective to the table.
You've got a point - You'd hope that the subject matter in your photos is able to convey those emotions. If they do not, or are in a poor position to do so, it falls upon the photographer to offer the right perspective upon the subject matter - as if saying, "Hey! This is cool, now look at it THIS way."
The viewer may never be where the photog is, esp at that specific point the moment is captured. Thus it's the "artist's" job to transport the viewer there effectively.
Thanks Civil! Yeah my style developed alot this past summer kinda sad my main lens crapped out on me
I coudlnt agree more with your guys words more. One thing that i've been working in directing the eyes of the viewer. and this past summer im slowly realizing what I want to shoot is more of story type shots. if i can evoke emotion i can create these stories.
