Laid off at my work.

I worked there for over 6 years and they just did a bit of cuts! I think they chopped me because I made more then the people I work with and I'm kind of bummed about it but that job was getting lame and I didn't see myself there much longer anyway! Needless to say I will be a lot more active on the forums and on the servers! My unemployment is already set up but does anyone else have any advice? Should I file for food stamps or free medical insurance like Obama care? Is there anything else I'm missing? I have never been on unemployment in my life so this is all new to me and I'm sure you guys know a thing or two about it. Who would like to help me pick out some upgrades for my PC? Limited funds but since I know I will be gaming more it's time to get more than 55 FPS!!!

Terribly sorry to hear about the layoff, never fun to go through it even if the job was getting tedious. I would apply for ACA and no clue on food stamps.
 
Most of those who apply to ACA are rolled into Medicaid, sure. what will it hurt to apply. as for the rest, yes, any assistance will help you until you can secure better/other employment.
 
@yarr - if you have never had to worry about health care, I recommend checking out coveredca.com. Since you were recently terminated, you can apply for eligible programs. Though you will probably be placed on Medi-Cal. As you apply, it will ask if you are also seeking government assistance such as SNAP (food stamps).
 
Though keep in mind, your coverage is slightly affected by your income from last year, but your life changing event (being put on unemployment) may allow you to be eligible for assistance programs.
