GPU Question

yarr

The 47 Ronin
Tonight while playing CS everything was going fine for like an hour of playing and then I started getting these random like spiked models that were a purplish color and then that would happened every 10 or so minutes but reconnecting fixed it. After doing that on and off my computer monitor started to have a white checkered fuzzy (best I can describe it) look to it. Is this a hardware, driver, temperature problem? Does this sound familiar? I have new drivers downloading as I type this and the card is practically brand new so if it's not an easy fix I can go exchange it. Or does this sound like an entirely different issue???

EDIT: i want to add that my computer is not rebooting itself like it has before when I had an overheating problem and that's the only reason I ruled that out.

Graphics cards can have bad memory chips without crashing causing purple textures and other random screen glitches. Examples:

Overheating can also cause the texture glitches or the models stretching out.
Check temperature with MSI afterburner (for nvidia) or nvidia.

If temperature is fine, warranty card.

Edit: Most of the time if it's bad drivers, drivers will fully crash program or blue screen. If it's bad memory chips then it won't crash out but glitch. If it's temperature you might get FPS drop, glitches or blue screens. The blue screens not due to memory but the processor overheating and triggering blue screen or will shut off.

The reason I believe it's memory is because temperature effects Windows OS also (windows too will freeze or crash, not just the game.)

Last Edit: New doesn't mean crap in the tech world. Most boards/cards will probably have a component replaced before it's shipped (cap/resistor/memory). 99.7% of 1M resistors manufactured without defect leaves 3K bad resistors. Manufacturing obviously produce much more even with higher tolerance leaves a lot of bad parts. The example I'm giving is that you probably have 1000 resistors/caps on that card, there's a good chance one could be bad, same for memory chip. (edit bad grammar)

CutScene - I went and returned it this morning and now everything seems normal. I wasn't sure what was causing it so I just returned it for a new one. I'm about to test it out now and I will update the thread if my issue continues. Thank you for your support Cut! <3'

Gaspar - I will do that before I boot my game up :)
