Dota 2 gift fraud?

It is just a serial number to be registered with Steam. How anyone could manipulate Steam in a manner that could bite you in the butt is beyond me. Take it and see if Steam activates DOTA2 off that serial number. Worse case scenario, it is invalid or already been claimed.

You sure that random dude wasn't one of us? :p
If no one else claims giving it to you, you're welcome. ha

Ok, he's not completely random. Just didn't recognize the name, but he is in the 47R L4D2 steam community. Anyone know Boost?

You just can't be too careful these days...

Are you sure it was a random dude and not STEAM?
I just received 4 Dota keys from steam today, looks legit to me.

the key itself might not contain anything bad, but about 6 yrs ago i was gifted a game and it was bought with a stolen credit card so my account was banned for fraud because i activated it. after arguing with steam for about a year they lifted the ban on my account (it's the current one i use) because i had a lot of games on it. funny thing is they let me keep the game anyways.

always be careful when taking candy from strangers, you never know what's really in the van......

if you decide not to take the risk I have like 5 or 6 dota keys so if you PM me your email ill just send you one of mine, same goes for anyone else interested.

Dota 2 beta invites are free, so what happened to Fred will not happen to you. plus dota 2 betas are just being thrown out all over the place. Infact I just got another two, I've gotten about a total of around 15...

It looks like DOTA 2 is going the way of the Free-to-play model with in-game purchases being the main source of revenue for Valve. My friend just gifted 5 full (non-beta) DOTA 2 games to folks.
