It appears like there is a need for discussion on what people are studying and most importantly, what to do with your education in real life later.

-->make lots of money...legally

I'm actaully at school right now, so I can't really talk too much, but I am interested in your insights. You are a Chem E? What is your specific area and what classes did you find the most challenging?

I'm a chem major looking to do a fundamental type of science. I don't really care about making soap for living, for instance. Organic chemistry has been a really fun class so far, however.

First off, enjoy your time in college. I really mean it. Have as much fun as possible.

Everyone's goal is different. It appears you enjoy school work and science, perhaps graduate work might suit your taste. Not mentioning, graduate study in Chem E is virtually free and you get to stay in college for many more years.

Yes, I studied Chem E and working as a chemist (mostly analytical work). the work is easy, but the politics and the corporate game is hard. Like I said, everybody is different. I simply want a job with a decent pay (but not long hours), so I can enjoy the tangibles in life, such as playing video games, working out, and spending time with family and friends.

Working for the man will not make you rich; look for opportunities on the side to be your own boss. I am not really sure on how to do that exactly.

    • What is your specific area and what classes did you find the most challenging?
      -Transport (So Navier STOKED!) definitely the most challenging
      -the most memorable class during college was in some advanced Chinese literature, believe it or not, I really enjoyed the reading materials.

I studied Biology in college and now am in my 3rd year of veterinary school. I'm considering going into specialty practice (particularly internal medicine) and getting a PhD so I can do research and teach.

This thread started with how modern education doesn't prepare us for real life events such as buying houses, cars, insurances, retirement funds...etc. Usually we learned from our parents and by trucking through it. Maybe your institution did provide just that and that's good for you.

I took all the business classes like marketing, econ, finance, accounting, etc and and simultaneously racked up a ton of debt and was clueless when buying houses, cars, etc.
Of course, I was hardly awake during most of those classes, but I don't believe any of them really reviewed real life events as you said. I work for an insurance company and my dad is an accountant and I still don't understand most of either. haha Of course, now with Obamacare, I don't think anyone knows what's going on, so I don't feel so bad now.

I study History/Secondary Education at Rhode Island college. I wish I went far away for school though. I've been in school since 2006 so I'm taking the LONG way.

People ask what do I want to be? I answer, a high school history teacher or President of the United States. Getting into congress is the easy part these days.

I got my AA in Criminal Justice here at WCC in Bham and im transfering down to California to Citrus College in Azusa to finish another 2 years of same Degree im thinking of minoring in Buisness...just because that is actually something that is extremely useful. Since what A-Rich said is true, most of the time the job is unrelated lol. I am hoping that I can excel and work up rank until they accept me into S.W.A.T. After another few years of that I will apply for FBI then hopefully Secret Services.
