So I have been off PC gaming for a while now but mostly because I only have a 6 year old non gaming laptop that cant do anything. As such I have been looking to get a new PC. One problem is that I know nothing about the technical side of PCs. With the announcement that Pre-orders are now available for two of the new Steam Machines that work alot like consoles it got me thinking maybe I should buy one.
What I want to know is yall's opinion on the steam machines power for its price along with the viability of a linux operating system. Here is the website for the alienware Steam machine.
Alienware Steam Machine on Steam
I dont need to play games at the highest graphics settings. All I want is something that can reliably play pretty much everything that comes out for next couple of years. Apparently you cant change out the graphics card on these but you can change out everything else like you can with a normal PC. How important is that to the machine's lifespan? Is having a linux system going to mean that I can only play a few of the games that are coming out? Will games like Xcom 2 be playable with linux? Lastly if the steam machine is no good what are my other options. I figure you guys are more trustworthy to ask than some random dude at best buy.
All these are specific questions that I need answers to. Any information yall have is good.
