I always find it funny when people call today's Hawks fans bandwagoners. They've only had the loudest stadium in the league since forever, and people often mention how passionate the fans were during the old kingdome days when the team was horrible for an eternity. Even during the rebuild years from 2008-2011, the stadium was sold out every game and the place was always amped up to 11.
Contrast this with 49er fans, who are surely one of the most fair weather fan bases that the NFL has to offer. I remember watching games in San Fran year after year where only 2/3 - 3/4 of the stadium was full and you could hear a pin drop. This coming from an organization that has had a winning tradition in the past, and has compiled plenty of winning seasons to build a devoted fan base.
Before the last two years, Seattle had enjoyed one brief stint as legitimate contenders during the 04-06 range, and one losing superbowl appearance. Their fans really shouldn't be as loyal as they are if historical successes and failures are any metric worth considering.
I've watched every game since the end of the 2003 season, and that culmination last year of finally witnessing a championship being won in the northwest is something me and so many others thought we'd never get the opportunity to experience.
Point being: They call us the 12th man for a reason, and we've existed for way longer than two years.
