I want to unbrand my Sony Xperia X10a.

But more importantly I want to know if I can change it to a Sony Xperia x10i by some fancy reflashing methods because my if i want a phone with a data plan up here in canada its at least going to cost me $50 and thats very limited data usage and phone plan. I can get an unlimited data, call/text plan for $25 if I have a phone that works on the network of a new provider in canada. But they only provide service to very few networks HSDPA 1700/2100 (x10i) and my phone is an x10a which is 1900/2100. But if I can just reflash it to an x10i then life will be good

Haha, try this. I've never had a nice phone so I never ever fuck with phone software. I googled "sony whateverthesamewas x10a vs x10i" and "debrand x10a" and got a ton of bong hits.

I've unlocked and jailbroken an iPhone and my current phone, Samsung Optimus T. I currently have my Samsung jailbroken and overclocked to 806MHz. I know a little about customizing phones and unlocking or overclocking. So, AMA.

Sorry, no let me clarify.

I want to utilize my existing unlimited data plan (via a messaging plan, not a smartphone plan). Get my "free" phone for renewing my contract, an then buy a phone off Amazon (looking at Samsung Infuse 4G/Samsung Galaxy SII) that has already been unlocked for AT&T use. Then get the phone rooted.

I've always used Samsung because their phones are fairly reliable. Any suggestions?

Good call. Samsung are good phones and galaxy's are easily root-able. You can overclock those things into outstanding speeds; GHz easily. They have guides for the Galaxy on how to root it, install a new Rom, etc.
